Premiere exhibition at PAVED Arts.

To celebrate the re-opening of their new contemporary media arts centre, PAVED Arts has commissioned the acclaimed art collective [The User] to create a major new work of media art.

Entitled Coincidence Engines, this first exhibition in PAVED Arts' new Galleries will open to the public on Friday September 12 as part of the Grand Re-Opening launch of our their building.

Coincidence Engines is the latest example of [The User]'s innovative approach to the medium of sound art. Conceived around the themes of time and time-keeping, Coincidence Engines is an exhibition that draws from the disciplines of music, new media and architecture to create rich and complex sonic environments.

The seemingly simple sound of a ticking clock is usually taken for granted. Yet over the course of two years of research and experimentation, the artists have turned this obviousness inside out to closely investigate the nuances, perceptions and implications of measuring time's flow. By assembling large numbers of clocks and constructing a sophisticated system of electronic controls, [The User] has in effect created a new kind of instrument that produces both randomness and order in changing sound and visual patterns that are experienced in the gallery space.

Alternately mesmerizing, contemplative and thought-provoking, Coincidence Engines illustrates PAVED Arts' commitment to the exploration of new frontiers in artistic creation through contemporary technology. By investing in research and development by Canadian media artists, PAVED supports innovation in the arts and provides challenging and stimulating experiences for the Saskatoon public.
